Professional Background

Guy has successfully mediated all but one mediation in the last 5 years. He takes a very hands-on and practical approach to disputes yet understands that listening to the parties is important. He firmly believes in the art of gentle persuasion whilst never descending into the arena. He is firmly convinced of the benefits of mediation

In one mediation, he successfully mediated over 2 days a high profile action between a well known living classical composer and a publishing house. This was a very difficult mediation of an action with a time estimate at trial of 20 days. He was approached because of his track record in settling difficult disputes and was chosen over well-known mediators.

Information Technology

Guy's Natural Science degree included computers (in addition to physics, mathematics and psychology). He has written various programmes including as part of his degree, a 3 dimensional graphic modelling shipping channel simulation programme. This experience has assisted him in advising and litigating on a number of substantial disputes over the supply of defective computer software and hardware. These disputes tend not to go to trial and the costs of going to trail are normally prohibitive. Also, he advises on contractual documentation for the suplly and maintenance of software and hardware.

In relation to arbitration, Guy has experience in arbitration disputes and has sat as an arbitrator in an intellectual property licence dispute.

He is the author of "Intellectual Property in Europe" (Sweet & Maxwell) which is now in its 5th Edition (Sweet & Maxwell November 2020). The 6th edition will be published in 2021.

He is also the author of several articles in the European Intellectual Property Review and the Intellectual Property Quarter.

Guy also lectures around Europe including the University of Maastricht and CEIPI, Strasbourg as well as in the UK extensively.
