Mediation Style

Jeremy has a natural personal authority. He is quick to understand the complexities and underlying dynamics of a dispute. He is naturally inclined to see conflict as destructive and is highly motivated and energetic in helping clients find a way through. He often brings a new perspective and he is self-controlled, persistent and patient.

In his spare time, he runs ultra-marathons and he is often heard to say in mediation that he’ll be the last to stop! Jeremy is curious about people. He is warm, tolerant and able to really focus in on the key issues. He places a premium on creating a safe environment so people are at ease and so they can see the opportunities they are presented with.

In terms of technical style, Jeremy is able and willing to move between an evaluative approach – where the mediator defines the problem, assesses it and predicts the basis of settlement – and a facilitative approach – where the mediator enables the parties to negotiate effectively themselves. What is more important to Jeremy is the skill in setting up and orchestrating other people’s negotiations, in particular managing information exchange and helping the parties through the transitions required to reach a mutually agreed outcome.

Jeremy's Testimonials

"During my career, I have learned that conflict is a reality. I have seen too many of those conflicts result in painful litigation. One of those conflicts involved a client’s family dispute – which could well have ended up in the courts.

Jeremy worked tirelessly with the various family members to help them focus on potential solutions and to shift their mind set away from blame and the past. Jeremy had a clear vision of the future for them and that created sufficient momentum for the family to attend a mediation meeting.

A thirteen hour negotiation resulted in an agreement that brought closure. Not only was litigation avoided but also the family could start to repair their relationships. I was very impressed with Jeremy. So I will be recommending him to clients as a great way of resolving disputes in the future."
