Katie practises facilitative mediation which means she does not provide her opinion or give any recommendations or make any determination. Instead, she encourages the participants to considers their needs and wants, challenge them to explore potential solutions, and reality test any solutions with a view to the participants reaching a mutually acceptable agreement. This all takes place in a private and confidential setting.

Her skill is in empowering the participants to reach a resolution in a way which is collaborative, less stressful, reduces costs and is more time efficient than litigation.

Katie is an accredited mediator in civil and commercial mediation and is a non-practising solicitor.

She was admitted as a solicitor in September 2001. As a trainee solicitor, she completed seats in crime, residential conveyancing, commercial litigation, personal injury/clinical negligence, and family/matrimonial. Post-qualification, she specialised in clinical negligence as a solicitor and as a Senior Associate.

Katie took a career break from May 2013 until June 2023 to take care of her young family. During this time, she volunteered as a pro-bono legal adviser at a free legal advice centre advising on a wide range of legal issues including employment, housing, family, education, benefits, wills and probate, crime, and pre-action civil litigation matters. She  was also a Treasurer at a local pre-school and helped with fundraising and teacher support at a local primary school. 

Katie qualified as a mediator in June 2023 and is a CMC Registered and IMI Qualified Mediator. She is now a full time mediator and still volunteers at the free legal advice centre.
