Professional Background

Gaby has hands-on experience of the pressures faced by senior business leaders and in-house corporate counsel.

During a corporate career spanning nearly 3 decades and covering more than 30 markets, he held both senior legal and international business executive positions in billion-dollar global companies in the consumer electronics, manufacturing, technology, media and telecommunications sectors.

These positions included:

  • Head of Legal for Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) for a $4 billion business
  • Vice President & General Manager for North East Asia, responsible for a $2 billion P&L
  • Chief Negotiator and Head of Commercial Operations Management, with oversight of contracts in excess of $20 billion

He also acted as a consultant to early revenue/start-up companies and has an extensive network of professionals and subject matter experts around the world within his reach. His roles included Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Global Sales.

Through his corporate career, he led complex negotiations with major organisations. These include Apple, Samsung, Motorola, Philips, Huawei, HTC, Hutchison, Telefonica, Vodafone, TIM, T-Mobile, NTT DoCoMo, Softbank, SKT, China Mobile, MTN, Celador, Reuters, Best Buy, RadioShack, and UEFA – to name but a few.

In addition to his mediation services, Gaby now practises as a commercial barrister.

Languages

Gaby is bi-lingual in English and Spanish. He has lived and worked in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, visiting 84 countries and territories around the world.

Mediation Style

Gaby believes a coherent, structured process is essential to the success of any mediation. His detailed discovery process allows the participants to reach consensus from the outset on the problems they are trying to resolve.

Rather than sticking rigidly to the narrow framework of the legal issues in a court claim, Gaby focuses on unearthing the root causes of a dispute – understanding what is really at stake and how any settlement will have to fit in with other agreements and business relationships.

Experience has taught him that real resolution can only be reached when you substitute needs and interests for positions.

Gaby says:

“In-depth discovery uncovers individual interests. Uncovering individual interests helps identify common ground. And identifying common ground provides a pathway to a mutually beneficial agreement where everyone’s a winner.”
